He couldn’t look away. It was enormous! It was amazing! And it was trying kill or eat the Nautilus as it coiled its long arms around the ship. Jules didn’t have any worries for the ship around him as he looked out the window at the Leviathan that was now attached to the ship’s hull. He heard sirens, so he knew the captain was taking the matter seriously, but Jules could only stare in wonder at what was considered a sea myth staring him down.

The creature was easily as long as the ship. He had deduced that when he had seen it coming toward them at an angle. At that time it had been grayish in color. It had been pushing its way through the deep feet first in some odd fashion he couldn’t understand. Its massive greenish eye was on its elongated head and had seemed to stare at the ship assessingly. Then its color had changed to a luminescent red as it had turned and run straight at the ship at an amazing speed, rocking the large submersible vessel on contact. Its large beak with its rows of sharp teeth scratched at the hull causing an audible screech to communicate through the ship, like fingernails on a black board. Four massive tentacles with their many sucker grips were clinging to the window Jules was watching it through. Each one was of a varying size in relation to how close or far it was from the head. Jules could tell that the closer to the head they got the larger they were. “How do they grip metal?” he wondered. “Are the larger ones stronger than the smaller? How can it change its color? Why does it seem to glow? What does it normally hunt to mistake the ship for a meal? Are the stories of these creatures attacking ships in legends actually true? Could a wooden ship of last century survive an attack by a creature this huge?” Somewhere in the background he heard the captain order the vessel to surface. “Got to get a look at it from the deck,” he thought turning to run for the upper hatch.
