| AUTHOR'S NOTES: | This story was written for/published in Susan M. Garrett's "No Time For Landings," and is posted by permission. It owes a great deal to Tonja Moore's Judah's Seal, a work in process over on SJJVA. Tonja's story has got one of my all-time favorite angst situations in it — the one where there's a person in durance vile, his friends don't know he's being misused, if only they knew etc., and once they find out there's that good "how could we not have . . ." angst on top of it. Wallowing in, er, enjoying Judah's Seal, with poor Jules in the clutches of the Ungodly put me in mind of another Great Angsty Situation — the one in which somebody who is loved is feared dead, but isn't. I've been writing fanlit for a long time, though I took a break of nearly ten years between my previous fandom and this one. I had a story in a previous fandom that I'll always be proud of, and "Walpurgisnacht" turned out better than I'd expected; but so far as I can tell "The Island of Monte Cristo" is the best thing I've ever done. I'm proud of it. I hope you'll like it. |
