The Invention

By a spring’ beautiful day, Jean Passepartout, valet but also navigator and inventor was to beat the dust out of the carpets in the backyard of his master’ townhouse in London. Cleaning the carpet in made dark cloud of dust flying in the air around him bring ideas in his bright mind as that was also to bring dust in his nose and get him to sneeze. The invention could surely simplify greatly the task as avoid to that dust to drive someone sick, the man though in finish the task and bring the carpets back in to next run for stretch his blueprint. A month later the Passepartout’ super-carpets-beater-duster-cleaner was ready for the first test.

So a quiet morning, Jean gets his new baby in the parlor where Phileas Fogg, Passepartout’ master, had chosen to sit for sip his cup of coffee while to chat with his cousin Rebecca Fogg and their friend Jules Verne. All was quiet until Phileas get a blow to the back of the shoulder and would surely had spilled his cup’ warm contain on his fresh ironed good tailored trouser if that had not be emptied a second before but didn’t stop the gentleman to get up in a harsh move in yell, “Ah! Damn it!” Passepartout moved in sight in push his invention away of his master after one of the arms of the machine had hit his master on his passage, “I’m sorry master, Passepartout wand only show that new invention to Mister Jules. Phileas frowned on his manservant for next look on the said invention. The lady and the young writer did it too on the good domestic word.

The metal was to form a chariot carrying on all evidence the engine. On the top of that was a sphere from where was to come out two long and looking strong arms. ---The exhibit “A” -- Phileas thoughts about the thing having struck him on all evidence few seconds before. Totally on the top of the sphere was a pipe recalling of the steaming ships’ chimneys or the familiar head of what had been Steeley Joe. Phileas didn’t dare figure his valet’ last creation in action but his curiosity couldn’t stop him to question the inventor, “For heaven’ sake! Passepartout, what the devil is… that… monstrosity?” The inventor pride of his work and enthusiasm on the result of the test to come show to them a bright and wide smile, “That master, is Passepartout’ super- carpets-beater-duster-cleaner!” He said happy to talk about his creation while Jules get up for inspect closely his friend invention in being amaze by that as well than by all what Passepartout had said.

Phileas looked on his valet in stay out of understanding but as if all had being said about already, “Ah! I suppose than it’s now useless to me to ask what that can do.” On Passepartout’ words and her cousin reaction, Rebecca busted to laugh after had tied so hard to avoid that. Rebecca stopped to laugh for answer him in stay amused, “Phileas, it would surely be done for beat the dust out of a carpet but what would you know of a so simple task being a household’ one.” Phileas looked on her with the what-can-you-know-about-that-yourself glare and realizing what she had said Phileas exclaimed, “Good lord! He will not use that inside!” Passepartout shakes his head, “No, no, master, I only come for show the Passepartout’ super- carp…” Phileas stopped him in mid-sentence, “That right Passepartout, we all understand that the first time.” Passepartout nods, “Can I take the carpet for the test outside?” Phileas had not answered as Jules had said, “I wand see that in work state.” Rebecca had collected the carpet herself, “Lets see that then.” She had said exited as the little girl she had been once always ready for new dare and challenge to go on.

As Phileas had not move in stay unsure he was to assist to that test of the new invention, Rebecca called for him, “Come on Phileas, it will be funny to watch.” Phileas sighed deeply and followed them outside straitening his jacket. He walked outside to stop once his boot where in the grass to put his hands in his trouser’ pockets as Passepartout, Jules and Rebecca were around the metallic form. Passepartout explained to his two students the machine’ building and the way that would work, in theory, since the machine had not been tested yet but was in way to be. Heard that the explanation were only theoretical and not experimental driven Phileas nervous. He stay at what he would considerate a safe distance of Passepartout’ invention by mind to avoid to be stroke, burned, scalded, dusted or not matter what else that invention could done to him in became wild. After all, each and every invention than Passepartout had build had tested with his cooperation had eventually turned to have a screw against him.

So Passepartout had ready the machine before get that out. Loaded that with coal in a compartment and water in another. Passepartout moved a broomstick and fixed that in a hole in the top sphere and next settled the carpet over. The broom handle was to hold the carpet upper and between the arms. Passepartout walked next behind the machine and open a small door. The compartment was loaded with coal. Passepartout looked on Jules, “The oiled coal will help to have the water boiling enough for the steam to powered the carpets-beater, the water was already boiling when I put that in the tank and with the oil the coal with be warmer faster.” Jules had nodded interested as all of that was to made sense and would work for him since they had do that already in build the Steeley Joe, a metal man powered by steam. Passepartout get a matchbox out of his waistcoat’ pocket. He fired one and throws that in the compartment. Looking on Rebecca in front of the machine, Passepartout warning her, “Miss Rebecca, better to not stay there.” He said in turn control on the back of the machine and brings Jules and Rebecca with him at distance.

Phileas didn’t move in watch while to show a moue, as the mechanic beast was not to move at all. Taking his watch out of his waistcoat’ pocket as if he had better to do than to waste time to wait for the invention to show its capacities. Rebecca rolled her eyes on him what the gentleman didn’t remark as he was to chronometer the time it would ask before get the fist reaction of the machine. On the third minutes smokes was to be seen coming out by the chimney. On fifth minutes the first mechanical sound came form the mechanism as the arms moved slowly to part lightly. On tenth minutes, the arms were to their father position as Passepartout was hypnotized by his baby’ first moves. The mechanist released them as the springs’ move brought the arms quickly back together in a shock in the middle of the carpet lifting a cloud of dust in the air. Jules was to match the machine too, “That work, that work!” he said as Passepartout happy said that too, “Yes, that work, Mister Jules!” Rebecca giggles follow their amusement as Phileas stay to watch the machine at distance in see that effectively that was to seem in a working state.

The mechanisms’ gears wheels rolled on in the others and the arms moved again slowly to part. “Look on that, it work really, Passepartout!” Jules had exclaimed happy for his friend’ succeed. Passepartout stay smiling as the arms come to their farter position again with a light move backward hardly perceptible. The arms were released once again and come back together in a faster move to beat the dust out of the carpet with more strength. The machine was really to work, ----amazing--- Phileas though in take few step closed to joint a happy Rebecca who was to look on the same thing than him.

The arms parted once again as the backward move at the end of the parting was more evident now as the machine’ mechanism was to force as the shock of the arms hitting on the carpet as well than one the other had loosen some pieces of the machine. As the arms of the machines had backward too much what blocked the arms in place. The unstopped machine continued to force on the mechanism what bring a vibration in the entire mechanism’ mobile pieces.

Work stay in progess...
