A Wall Between the Outside and You
"Oh, and who are these men?" Aleta asked. She smiled at all of them, curtsying to each as Marisol looked on, for a moment disbelieving this all then smiling serenely as well.
"This is Doctor Gaston, and his assistant…" Rebecca started, but Jules finished, "Mr. Phillipe Navar, former fiancée of my cousin, Amelie. Am I right?"
"I am glad to see you well, Mr. Verne," Navar said, but it was obvious he didn't.
"Mr. Navar," Aleta said, "Jules told me a very strange thing. He said that his cousin stated that you had various…how can I say this?"
"Mood swings," Phileas said, "something about him being violent a few times and quiet and calm the next."
"She even said that you spoke in different voices," Jules said, "but then again, she isn't alive to speak of that, is she? Not after you killed her."
"What? Why would I do that?" Navar yelled, glaring now at Jules and moving side to side, as if ready to bolt.
"Why, he wasn't stuttering," Aleta told him, "You killed your fiancée during a robbery just because he had no money and she tried to save him. Both of them knew who you were, and since Jules is cured, I find little reason for any of you to take him away."
Navar was now a red color that Rebecca had seen Chatsworth get whenever Phileas made him particularly mad for not getting something right or for being contradicted and the other opinion being right.
"Marisol? I think we should leave," Aleta said, "Mr. Navar seems ready to explode. Besides, it is time to go."
"Leaving so soon?" Jules asked as Marisol got up.
"Sí. Tengo mucho tarea y problamentente tendría mucho más," the two opened the door as the doctor moved Navar towards it and left with him first, probably so that no harm would come to the ladies, "¡Hasta luego, Chapparito!"
"See you soon, lascan," Jules answered, and the two women left once again. As they did, Phileas suddenly remembered something.
"I never asked Aleta about that Lyn person."
"Who?" Rebecca asked.
Jules and Phileas sat down to explain all that had happened.
