The doctor who had come onboard the Aurora and had helped to take the piece out of the Other Jules (Barbara now called him that, since he wasn't completely evil) and also talked with the Other Foggs.
The doctor came out quickly, and showed them the piece. Barbara herself felt sick, even if some of the blood was off of it. She was squimish in that types of things, but not in thrills.
" He will wake up soon," the doctor, an elderly man who probably had seen kinder days, told them, " and he may be confused. I suggest rest and quiet for a while."
" Thank you, doctor," the Other Fogg said, and the two Other Foggs went up to check on the Other Jules with Barbara while the rest stayed downstairs and talked or got ready to set off in the Aurora. Upstairs, the Other Jules was already awake, and looking around at the Aurora quietly, a white bandage covering his ear and most of the side of his face. Barbara smiled at him as they came in, and he only gave her an inquisitive look, as if he was trying to remember where she came from.
" I'm Barbara Quendo, but you can call me Barbara. You remember Phileas and Rebecca Fogg?"
The Other Jules nodded slowly, then licked his lips, as if trying to speak but still finding the words for it.
"I..." he started, stopped, then tried again, " I...I'm...sorry."
The Other Foggs seemed surprised at that, and Barbara quickly understood. Here was the man that had nearly doomed all the Earth, yet underneath it all, he was still the scared, confused and inexperianced young man they had first met and helped (well, other then both Phileas' in the beginning...they just beat him up, as Barbara recalled, but later apologized for it).
" We forgive you, Jules," Rebecca said, and it was clear she was near tears, " Oh Jules!"
Barbara left before she started to cry at the whole emotional outburst.
" How are they?" Jules asked when Barbara came down.
" Healing," Barbara said, " I think they all want forgiveness."
" Really?" Phileas asked.
Barbara sighed, " No, actually, they are all in some huge fight that would put any wrestling match of my time to shame and all of the evil little plot twist are coming out as well. Yes, Phileas, they are all happy and crying their eyes out and...please don't give me that look."
Phileas was giving her the look like she was from some other world (well, yeah, she was, but that didn't mean he had to give her that look).
" No, it's just...you're fading."
" WHAT?" Barbara turned towards the mirror nearby. Indeed, her hair seemed much lighter and her skin was becoming pale.
" I am thinking we leave?" Passepartout asked.
Rebecca and Jules raced upstairs to get their Others outside as Passepartout began to get ready to launch the Aurora. Barbara quickly grabbed the remote control thing, and pressed on again.
" As much as I know you would do anything to help them," Karona said, " You did something that I wasn't hoping for. The fact that the journal even got into your hands was a mistake. As it is, I doubt you could survive much longer in either dimension, so I bid you a fond farewell my dear. Enjoy the next life."
Barbara said a few things at that point which are not worth repeating, and threw the control across the room. The controler broke just as the Others left the Aurora and it started to fly upward.
Barbara sat up in her bed and blinked. It was night, and she had spent a whole day with Jules Verne. Hadn't she? Barbara fumbled until she found the desk lamp and turned it on. Her room hadn't changed, and on the desk was the book "The Mysterious Island" by Jules Verne. She picked it up and opened it to the front, then blinked again to try and clear her vision and make sure she wasn't hallucinating. Inside the cover was a small note, one with her name written on it. She took it out and opened the note.
" Dear Miss Quendo," the letter started,
" I am writing this to tell you that we have gotten back okay, but you left your book here. I doubt you will remember most of the events, so I shall relate them to you.
" After you threw the remote control (as you called it) to the wall, you fainted and began to fade in and out. The Aurora got back to England, and we landed in the Fogg's backyard and hoped to call a doctor to make sure you were okay. I saw that the book wasn't fading in or out, so I wrote this down. Rebecca thought you didn't need one and was dead, but just as night is falling (now), you disappeared entirly. At that point, I think I had some sort of vision, or we all did at least. We were in a room, and I suppose it was your because I didn't want to touch anything. I saw the book on your desk, so I give you this note. My guess is that we will leave at midnight. If you wake after that, we will hopefully be gone. If not, then I hope that we find a way back to our own universe and time with your help.
" I must go, as it is getting near midnight. Maybe we will see each other again.
" Yours truely,
" Jules Verne
" PS: I signed the book, in the back. I hope you don't mind."
Barbara smiled and turned to the back of the book to see that not only had Jules signed it, but also Phileas, Passepartout and Rebecca as well. Barbara closed the book and quickly turned off the light. She was tired, and there was so much to do tommorrow.
